Visakhapatnam: Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GC) displayed tribal craftsmanship at Adimahotsav--an annual tribal festival inaugurated by President of India Drouipadi Murmu in New Delhi on February 16.

The expo saw an impressive participation of tribal communities from across the country. The event, running until February 24, serves as a platform for tribal artisans and craftspersons to display their traditional products and unique art forms.

As a significant step towards supporting and promoting tribal welfare, GCC has put up various stalls representing the diverse and rich tribal heritage of the State. A total of 16 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) from Andhra Pradesh showcased their locally-made products, handcrafts, and indigenous art, highlighting the creativity and skill of the tribal artisans. The stalls displayed an array of tribal crafts, jute bags, savara paintings, food products and other unique items, all of which were met with great enthusiasm by visitors. The GCC also proudly presented its unique range of tribal products, with special emphasis on Araku Valley Coffee, a product of immense significance and a symbol of the hard work and dedication of the tribal farmers in the Araku Valley. The event saw the participation of the VC and MD of GCC G Sandya Rani, who attended as the head of the state-implementing agency for the Van Dhan Vikas Kendras.

Speaking at the event, she expressed their pride in representing the tribal communities of Andhra Pradesh at such a prestigious platform. "It is a proud moment for us to bring the voices and creations of the tribes under one roof and showcase their incredible contributions to India's rich cultural diversity. We are deeply honoured to be part of this remarkable event," the VC and MD stated.

GCC has always been committed to empowering tribal communities through initiatives like the Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, which provide a platform for tribal artisans to market their products.

Sandya Rani emphasised the positive economic impact of the event, noting that the tribes are receiving fair prices for their products, further ensuring their economic independence.
